I know that it’s only the beginning of January and pitchers and catchers don’t report until next month, but there is never a bad time to talk baseball. What I would like to talk about is the game within baseball that we all can play and that is fantasy baseball. When you go to do your baseball draft within the next few months who will you be taking as your first player?
This year I think there will be a new number 1 player at the top of the draft boards who has deserved the top spot for many years. That would be Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera who just posted the first Triple Crown season in over 40 years. Miguel Cabrera has always been a top 5 guy every year but this year he should be the top guy on everyone’s list.
Miguel Cabrera is the model for consistency in the major’s right now and it is crazy that this past season he won his first MVP award. Since his first full season back in 2004 with the Marlins he has posted over 25 homers and 100 plus rbi’s. Not to mention his batting average in which he has been an over .320 hitter 7 times out of his first 9 seasons.
When it comes to picking in the first round you want safety with your pick and Miguel Cabrera is the safest pick you can take year in and year out seeing as he has played in at least 150 games all the time he has been in the Majors.
Consistently great numbers in average, home runs, and rbi’s as well as health security it is the year Miguel Cabrera rightfully takes his spot as the number one player in fantasy baseball. The new “Machine” is here and has been here for 9 years.
