With the Arizona Cardinals getting into the record books last week for something they probably never wanted to, which was win their first 4 games of the season only to come back and lose their next 7. Is it time for the franchise to get rid of star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and rebuild the team?
Living in Arizona I watch every Cardinals game each Sunday and this season looked promising at the beginning only to turn into a complete disaster the past 7 weeks. Larry Fitzgerald is having one of his worse statistical seasons in his career having only 627 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Not all of the problems are Larry’s fault with the terrible offensive line not giving the quarterback anytime to throw whoever that may be whether its Kevin Kolb, John Skelton or Ryan Lindley. So far the Cardinals offense is one of the worst in the league ranking near the bottom in most offensive categories.
My idea was when Kurt Warner retired and Anquan Boldin left for Baltimore after the 2009 season. They should have traded Fitzgerald, or keep him another year or 2 then see what they could get. Instead the ownership has kept Fitzgerald around more than likely to sell tickets and jerseys because the Cardinals have not made the playoffs since Kurt Warner left the team back in 2009. Plus who on the team would people go see on the field? Patrick Peterson is a great cornerback but I am pretty sure many fans will not spend good money to watch a cornerback and punt returner.
Larry Fitzgerald will go down as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. He is one of the nicest players in the game and a valuable teammate. But when is the time to rebuild the franchise? The Seahawks and the 49ers seem to be the front runners to win that division each year. The Cardinals have a great young defense which is going to help against the tough defenses of San Francisco andSeattle.
The Cardinals are going to have to face facts sooner or later that even the best players start to decline look at Marvin Harrison his last few years in the league. It is time to start fresh and rebuild this football franchise.
